World Environment Day
Seas and Oceans image
The UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) is the international organization responsible for the annual WED (World Environment Day), which normally falls on June 5.

To celebrate this day in 2004, the Universal Forum of Cultures – Barcelona 2004 has drawn up a program of activities in agreement with Barcelona City Council, the Catalan Autonomous Government and the central Government.

The UNEP has decided that Barcelona should be the main venue for the World Environment Day events, in response to the express request sent by the Mayor of Barcelona to the Executive Director of the UNEP.

The theme selected for 2004 is “Wanted! Seas and Oceans. Dead or Alive?”. This theme asks us to choose how we want to treat the world’s seas and oceans. It also asks each one of us to take action. Do we want to keep our seas and oceans alive and healthy or do we want them dead?
