| The Universal Forum of Cultures
is a large-scale event that involves contact
with the public and that will depend on a
series of maintenance tasks and basic services
required for its operation. In view of the
nature of the event, the Forum has created
official staff wear with an exclusive design
intended to clearly identify Forum personnel
while reflecting principles of simplicity,
multipurpose design and diversity.
The main guidelines for the design of staff
wear were approved by the Forum's Executive
Board in a meeting held on October 14, 2003.
The line of staff wear includes various
models, covering the spectrum from casual
attire to more formal, Mediterranean-style
outfits, and including a range of versatile
accessories.
In line with the principle of simplicity,
the designs used for clothing items and
accessories are intended to be visible,
easily distinguishable, comfortable and
lightweight, while allowing complete freedom
of movement and adaptation to different
activities.
In terms of their multipurpose orientation,
clothing items and accessories are versatile
enough to adapt to the requirements of different
categories and are designed to be comfortable
in both cool and hot conditions. The designs
do not make any reference to a staff hierarchy.
The principle of diversity is reflected
in the fact that Forum staff wear seeks
to avoid the idea of uniformity, highlighting
instead the message of identification with
a community.

"It's
my donation to the event"
Designer Antonio Miró expressed his
satisfaction at “participating in a
humanistic event like the Forum, a necessary
utopia.” Miró explained that
he personally offered to donate his services
to the Forum and design the uniforms free
of charge. Miró has a personal interpretation
of each of the colors of the garments. Orange
is for Miró a color of peace and harmony,
while white is a soothing, welcoming color
that expresses goodwill. Staff dressed in
white will wear sandals. “I have always
liked sandals,” said Miró, “and
since this year is the Year of Dalí,
who liked very much to wear them, I thought
it was a good idea". |
