Forum Barcelona 2004 gains support from Organization of Iberoamerica States (OEI)

All of the ministers attending the VII Conference on Iberoamerican Culture, held last October in Cochabamba city (Bolivia), unanimously lent their support of Forum Barcelona 2004’s values and principles. The Forum will be staged in Barcelona next year from May 9 to September 26 and is expected to draw over 5 million visitors from around the world to reflect upon the issues of cultural diversity, sustainable development, and conditions for peace.

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 20, the Secretary General and the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of Iberoamerican States (OEI), Francisco José Piñón and Rosario Fernández Santamaría, respectively, are scheduled to visit the Forum. They will meet with the heads of the event to express the support pledged by the Ministers of Culture during the VII Conference on Iberoamerican Culture.

The Conference, organized by the Bolivian government and the OEI, was held on October 2 and 3 and concluded with the Cochabamba Declaration, which was presented at the recent XIII Iberoamerican Summit of Heads of State and Government. The Declaration publicly states that the Ministers of Culture of all twenty-one Iberoamerican countries are committed to fostering the values and principles of Universal Forum of Cultures – Barcelona 2004.

The Organization of Iberoamerican States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) is an international, governmental body that aims to promote cooperation between Iberoamerican countries in the areas of education, science, technology and culture in the context of integral development, democracy and regional integration. The OEI is currently comprised of the countries that make up the Iberoamerican community of nations. The OEI’s Secretary General headquarters are located in Madrid and it also has regional and specialized offices in Bogotá, Brasilia, Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City, San Salvador, Asunción, Managua, Santiago de Chile and Tegucigalpa.
