 Inhabiting the World

Hangar at Marina Seca

Within the wider context of sustainability, Inhabiting the World (provisional title) examines relationships between human beings and space. This theme is dealt with on three different scales - region, city and habitat - by using a zoom approach that moves from the broadest level to the most narrowly focused. At the same time, the exhibition looks at these relationships at the level of humanity, society and the individual.

Inhabiting the World shows how human beings have settled the planet, our relationship with it and why we have the socio-environmental problems that we have.

The exhibition is based on several underlying principles: that our planet has a set of limits that we are rapidly approaching; that inequalities exist between societies and between rich and poor countries; and that there is now a broad global consensus that humanity must seek new guiding principles that take into account both the crucial role of natural systems and the pressing need to adopt more rational criteria for the organization of human activity on a planetary scale.
