Camilo José Cela-Conde: "The larger the brain, the more purified it is"

The professor of anthropology and philosophy of the mind at the University of the Balearic Islands, Camilo José Cela-Conde, spoke about the brain as an organ and how "the human brain is the largest of all mammals." In this sense, Conde referred to the large changes in size of the human brain and, specifically, to the Neanderthal to the Homosapien period, in which change is qualitative. Cela-Conde explained that this evolution takes place to understand and generate social rules and how the social brain "justifies this large brain."

The philosopher and journalist, Josep Ramoneda, explained that science "cannot be the refuge that saves us from uncertainty." In this sense, Ramoneda pointed out three principles so that "we avoid excessive illusions, and get closer to understanding tensions and conflicts." For Ramoneda, these principles are: discord, imperfection, and emotionality."
In relation to the principle of discord between the truth and the good, Ramoneda believes that one concept doesn't lead to another. In respect to imperfection, Ramoneda said "it breaks with the premise that humans are good by nature and what the social relationships are that corrupt this." "Humans can educate themselves both in aggressiveness as in cooperation, the brain is no ethical, human behavior is." Emotionality, explained Ramoneda "states the weight of human desire, but, at the same time, drives the individual to catastrophic acts for their own interest." Ramoneda concluded explaining that "science and humanity need to find common territory: humanism."
