Jordi Borja: "The city is no longer a guarantee for accessing citizenship

The director of the Dialogue, Jordi Borja, inaugurated the Dialogue and pointed out that "the city is what will characterize the world in the 20th and 21st century". For Jordi Borja, the model of the city in the 21st century will be spread out randomly and fragmented, no single authority will represent it, but rather, various". In addition, in the opinion of Borja, "the city is no longer a guarantee for accessing citizenship, that is to say, to people's right to be free". Borja said, "it is necessary to rethink the model of the city as we know it, because the present model is like a tower of Babel that never reaches the sky".
The secretary of Town Planning for the Generalitat de Cataluņa, Oriol Nel·lo, explained, "cities are characterized by violence, crime and problems". "In our collective imaginations, the city is associated with conflict and, on the contrary, we consider nature and often severe weather as symbols of peace and well-being", said Nel·lo.
For Nel·lo it is certain that "the city destroys landscapes and segregates social groups". The representative of the Generalitat went on to explain, "a will to put things into order is needed, to affirm the importance of policies in the building of our cities". Nel·lo added, "the collective will has to prevail over the will of individuals".
